The Princess Aline is a novelette by Richard Harding Davis. The story debuted in Harper's Monthly and was then published in its entirety in 1895, becoming the 5th-best selling novel in the United States for that year. The plot is about a prominent and well-off artist in America in his early 20s who sets off for Europe on a steamship to try and meet a princess he becomes enthralled with from a picture. He is joined by companions he meets along the journey. Frontispiece and 10 b/w illustrations by Charles Dana Gibson. Hardback. First Edition. 163 pp. and 8 pp. of ads. Bound in a light blue woven cloth with a dark blue vertical line-and-flower pattern topped by a wreath that enclose the title and author lettering in gold. And with two little gold crowns on either side at the top. The design wraps onto the spine, which also has gold lettering. Firmly bound. A few marks on cover. Small pencil inscription "4.18.1895" on front endpaper.
