Synesthesia is a brain condition that appears in one out of every 100,000 people, whereby all five senses mingle freely and uncontrollably; the synesthete can hear colours, taste shapes, listen to chocolate or see Mozart in green. Dr Cytowic wrote a neurological textbook on the subject, and now presents what is intended as an entertaining account based on his own case histories. He was nominated for the 1982 Pulitzer Prize for his story about the condition of White House Press Secretary James Brady, who received a gunshot wound to the brain during the assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan. The pages are coloured with age and have a few tears to them. The book's cover is worn and the spine is torn at the top and bottom.
