Rare first edition (1950) with dust jacket of the much-loved children's classic by C. S. Lewis. Illustrations by Pauline Baynes. Published by Geoffrey Bles. Hardback with illustrated dust jacket. 172 pages. Colour, illustrated d/j is present but in poor condition. Several large open and closed tears, split into two neatly along length of rear spine, large top section missing to rear of d/j. D/j front cover illustration unaffected; not clipped. Green cloth boards are fair. Spine is sunned and faded in places but boards are firm. Internally, very good for its age. Clean overall with very good b/w illustrations throughout and superb colour frontispiece of a magnificent Aslan with Susan and Lucy. Charming ink inscription to right front endpaper 'From Daddy to Hilary, to be taken in small doses before going to bed, early,' (dated August 1953). Some occasional minor foxing to endpapers and block. Lightly tanned overall. Binding is firm. Please see photographs for condition. Overall, a G
