By 'Home Affections' is meant Love, the subject of this volume of poetry selected and edited by the Scottish poet and author Charles Mackay. Red cloth with elaborate decorations to front, spine, and rear, all edges gilt. Illustrated with 100 engravings drawn by a variety of artists and engraved by the Brothers Dalziel, a prolific wood-engraving business in Victorian London. The binding is by Burn and Company, of Kirby Street, London, per their label discreetly on the rear pastedown. The various decorations are a little rubbed and dulled, and there are a few marks on the covers. There is some further rubbing to corners, edges and spine ends, and the spine has a forward lean. The ffep has been removed. The front pastedown has some light marks, and there is an owner's name on the first page. The tissue guarding the frontispiece has browned, affecting the frontispiece itself and the title page opposite. The pages in general have some foxing, moderate to heavy at the beginning and end of
