This is the second, and one of the best-known, of the author's novels. The central character, whose travels were the subject of "Parnassus on Wheels", the first publication, is now running a second-hand bookshop in Brooklyn, with the help of several other delightful characters. The book was first published in 1919, and there were 3 editions before this illustrated one appeared. Christopher Darlington Morley (18901957) was an American journalist, novelist, essayist and poet. He also produced stage productions for a few years and gave college lectures. Douglas W. Gorsline (19131985) was an American painter and writer, who worked in many media, including lithography, painting, and etching, and was an illustrator as well as a painter. Our book is a 'special edition' with illustrations, and retains most of the dust jacket, which has suffered all the wear & tear of the past 70-odd years.
