It is part of the Cambridge Psychological Library, edited by G. Dawes Hick. The 20 chapters are split into three: Part I: General Principles of Collective Psychology Part II: The National Mind and Character Part III: The Development of National Mind and Character In the Introduction, the author explains his choice of title, "The Group Mind", was made after some hesitation in favour of the alternative, "Collective Psyschology". He might have called it "An Outline of Social Psychology", but his earlier: "Introduction to Social Psychology" might be confused with that since the earlier book often became known just as "Social Psychology". At the end of the introduction he states:
