The Grand Quarrel. From the Civil War memoirs of Mrs Lucy Hutchinson; Mrs Alice Thornton; Ann, Lady Fanshawe; Margaret, Duchess of Newcastle; Anne, Lady Halkett, & the lettera of Brilliana, Lady Harley. Edited and Introduced by Roger Hudson. The English Civil War began in 1642 seeing the overthrow and execution of King Charles I in 1649. The newly established Commonwealth of England would then be ruled by Oliver Cromwell as Lord Protector until his own death in 1658. This was followed in 1660 by the restoration and crowning of Charles II as King of England, Scotland and Ireland. The memoirs compiled in this book show a contemporary look into the chaos of the era and how events were perceived and shaped the lives of people at the time. Early in the book there are some biographical notes giving context on the writers. The book comes within a dark blue slipcase box.
