This bound volume unites 26 weekly issues of 'The Garden' (6th July 1895 to 28th Dec 1895 - covers omitted), each of which includes long articles on the planting and maintenance of vegetable and flower gardens and greenhouses, illustrated articles on newly introduced varieties, and notes from important gardens throughout Britain. The colour plates are botanical illustrations of specific species accompanied by detailed notes on their provenance and propagation. The contents give interesting insights into the history of gardening and plant development and the plates are very attractive. The journal was founded by W Robinson, author of 'The English Flower Garden' , and this volume is dedicated to George Nicholson, Curator of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew.
