The Familiars imagines a story behind the famous 17th Century Pendle witch trials in northern England. The narrator of Halls' book is 17 year old Fleetwood Shuttleworth who is married to the Richard Shuttleworth lord of Gawthorpe Hall. Fleetwood is desperate to successfully give birth to her child, having lost her three previous pregnancies, lest her husband starts to look elsewhere to provide him with an heir. The main protagonist enlists the help of Alice Gray the local midwife to help her, Alice is then subsequently one of the accused Pendle witches. Measurements: 14.4cm x 22.4cm x 3.5cm
