Limited edition in 2 volumes of the Complete Works of Rabelais, illustrated by Frank C Pape. The limited edition had 4,300 numbered sets of which 2,300 were for sale in England and and 2,00 for sale in the USA This 2 volume set is number 521. The full title of this set is "The complete works of Doctor Francois Rabelais abstractor of the quintessence being an account of the inestimable life of the great gargantua, and of the heroic deeds, sayings and many marvellous voyages of his son the good Pantagruel, the whole faithfully rendered into English by Sir Thomas Urquhart, a new introduction by J Lewis May and many illustrations by Frank J Pape." The books are bound in black boards with gilt decoration and lettering. Top text block edge is red, other edges are deckled. The illustrations are black and white drawings, both full page and in the text. Covers are a little scuffed and edgeworn, Books firmly bound. Text clean and bright.
