Mishio Suzuki

Mishio Suzuki is a potter based near Kasama, a town known for its ceramic history north of Tokyo. These small bowls are from her Laur series, with its carved leaf like design. Mishio Suzuki was inspired initially by German and European product design. But by travelling in Europe she came to appreciate more the pottery tradition in her own region of Kasama. Carrying with her the diverse range of influences she acquired, Suzuki trained with the Kasama master potter Akio Nukaga, before establishing her own kiln in 2006. Some of these influences can be seen in green colour of this work, which is inspired by the forests Suzuki saw on her travels. The pieces balance a sense of nature, with a modern elegance. The bowl has a height of 4.5cm and a diameter of 9.5cm. The base is 6cm wide, and the bowl overall weighs 130g. As each item is handmade, there may be small differences between them.
