FIRST EDITION OF THIS VERSION HARDBACK BOOK. ? 1912. WITH ILLUSTRATIONS BY HUGH THOMSON. THIS BOOK IS IN VERY POOR CONDITION AND NEEDS RESTORATION. THE FRONT COVER AND SPINE HAVE SEPERATED FROM THE MAIN BOOK. THE TOP OF THE SPINE IS WORN AND ? EATEN. THE BOTTOM OF THE SPINE IS ALSO WORN BUT BETTER. THE ORIGINAL CANVAS IS FRAYED AT THE BOTTOM AND IS WORN AROUND THE EDGE OF THE FRONT MAIN COVER. INSIDE THE BOOK IS GOOD. The front page with inscription to Samuel Johnson. LLD has some marks which could possibly be removed with a rubber. The inside coloured plates are very good. The text is also very good. The inside rear of the book has illustrated end covers with a mark on the inside of the left cover. The inside cover at the front has the left hand page intact but the right hand page appears to be missing. There are then two loose pages attached to each other with the frontispiece of the book in good condition, bar a small tear at the bottom. The coloured plate opposite is also in good
