Kiyoharu Matsuda works in the glass tradition of the Okinawan Islands. Recent compared to much in the region, the beauty created from recycled glass is also a symbol of Okinawa’s post war recovery. A surfeit of empty bottles on the bases of occupying American forces, created a raw material for glass craftspeople to shape into new forms. At his workshop in Yomitan, Matsuda with his small staff, melt and blow this used glass into patterns that recall the nature around. A craftsman in glass since the day after he left school, his generosity and skill has helped a new generation enter the rich seam of this modern Okinawan tradition. Made in Okinawa, Japan.
