Tohachiya

These sakura (cherry blossom) design chopsticks are made by Wajima based lacquerware maker Tohachiya. The tradition in lacquer in Wajima, in Ishikawa on Japan’s northern coast, is one of the finest there is. Items in Wajima-nuri are classic gifts in Japan, and represent a small piece of durable luxury on the table. They represent the history of craft and celebration for which Ishikawa is known. These chopsticks are an introduction to this work, and use applied coating rather than traditional lacquer. They are practical and attractive, and available in five colours. Each features a bright, floral pattern reminiscent of Japanese spring. Made from carved wood and costed, they are not suitable for a dishwasher, but can be washed by hand. They are made using traditional techniques in Wajima, Ishikawa, Japan.
