Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám" is the title that Edward FitzGerald gave to his 1859 translation from Persian to English of a selection of quatrains (rubiyt) attributed to Omar Khayyam (10481131), dubbed "the Astronomer-Poet of Persia". This is a 1930 edition , richly illustrated by Willy Pogany with 12 tipped-in colour plates, 46 gold and black woodcut illustrations and black woodcut decorations throughout. Hardback covers with gilt title and gilt decoration on spine. Pen inscription dated 1959 on end page inside front cover. Covers are scuffed and marked with bumped corners due to shelf wear. Deckled page edges, darkened and shelf worn. Text pages are yellowed by age. Blank end paper inside back cover has been torn out. Small gap between spine and text block as a result of wear and tear.
