Exhibition catalogue. Born in Ain Beida, Algeria, in 1947, Rachid now lives and works in Tunisia and France. He studied at the Institute of Fine Arts and École supérieure des beaux-arts in Algiers, before continuing his studies in Paris at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, the Institut durbanisme and L'École supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris. Rachid Koraïchis impressive oeuvre includes large installations, ceramics, sculptures, textiles and works on canvas and paper. For Koraïchi, art represents an ancient pathway into the unknown. Signs and symbols from civilisations oldest languages are deconstructed and abstracted in the artists work to elaborate a personal visual vocabulary. In this new series, Koraïchi explores our connections to the earth as source of life.
