Gottfried Benn is an enigmatic ad challenging figure in German literature. Born in 1886, he began writing poetry in his student days and became deeply involved in the Expressionist movement, and his writings, which included plays as well as prose and poetry, were widely published in journals of the period. He occupies a position in German literature comparable to TS Eliot and Ezra Pound in the Anglo-American world of letters. This volume presents a comprehensive anthology of the author's work: poetry (with the German originals facing the English text), short stories, a scene from one of his plays, essays and autobiographical writings. Condition - excellent. Very minor staining to page edges. Yellowing to pages.
