Collection of 8 x copies of Picturegoer magazines. 7 from 1939, 1 from 1956. Published by Odhams Press, UK. Picturegoer magazine featured all the biggest stars of film, and the latest releases. It was sold in cinemas. First issued in 1911, it had various names and incarnations until 1921 when it adopted the name Picturegoer, Published weekly with a matt colour photographic cover, usually featuring glamorous major stars of the moment, it had articles about the productions, actors and personnel, and copious black and white photographs. Often with a centre-fold colour photograph of leading actors. It came more sensational in its content in the 1950s when it had to compete with the cinemas and film distributors who produced their own magazines. The magazine ceased publication in 1960. These issues are in good to very good condition, with some rubs, minor tears and signs of use, light tanning to pages. Some rusting to staples, but text is securely bound with no loose pages.
