Mary R. (Ries) Melendy published a number of books (8 at least) about women's matters, in the early part of the 20th century. Little seems to be known about her, but as a well-qualified medical doctor, she writes authoritatively on women's physical health, care of the body, understanding of natural processes (menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth, even miscarriage and abortion) also offering advice on the care & management of children, and almost as an afterthought, a section on 'Female Beauty and Accomplishment'. Home remedies are suggested for a number of common ailments, also. Any mention of food is limited to a section of 'Dishes for Invalids'. Our book is a 1901 1st edition copy published by E. E. Knowles of Portland, Maine - apparently a rarity, and dated some 2 years earlier than the edition reviewed on the LibraryThing website, though with an identical binding.
