Perfect English Style - Ros Byam Shaw The subtitle to this book reads 'recipes for rooms that are comfortable, pleasing, and timeless.' Byam Shaw's interest lies in a style that could be described as English Country House, a way of decorating that she says was crystallized, if not invented, in the middle of the 20th Century by decorator John Fowler and the wealthy American, Nancy Lancaster, who bought Colefax and Fowler. The style owes something to prefect imperfection, a relaxed style where a painting might not hang perfectly straight or an armchair is slightly battered. In this book Byam Shaw shows this style from room to room, starting with the hall and progressing through kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms. Although there is a definitive type it also isn't one stuck in aspic and there is much in this book to lust after. Hardback. 208 pages Measurements: 25.5cm x 30cm x 2.7cm
