A scarce 1880 enlarged second edition of Beckett's arguments for creationism. Amongst other things, Beckett was an eminent lawyer (QC), astronomer and horologist. In this latter capacity he was the designer of the mechanism for the clock of the Palace of Westminster (the Houses of Parliament in London), which is responsible for the chimes of Big Ben. The book has a gift inscription on the title page, and there is evidence of some erased pencil scribbling on the rear endpapers. Front pastedown is beginning to split from flyleaf. (See photos).
