Collecting old photographs is one things, but knowledgeably interpreting the scenes depicted and assembling them into three volumes of over 600 illustrations is quite another. Ebbw Vale is fortunate to have Keith Thomas who has performed this task handsomely, in the process placing his home town, with its wealth of industrial history, on the map of posterity. As in the previous books a wide variety of photographs has been used. Industrial scenes, early town views, moments of despair and happiness, these are just some of the subjects captured by photographers who in their day could hardly have realised the importance of their work to future generations. Religion, education, sport, trade, transport, occasions big and small, all are vividly portrayed in these pages. Old Ebbw Vale in Photographs: Volume 3. Author: Keith Thomas. Publisher: Stewart Williams, 1982. Unpaginated- 116 pages from the title page. Contains 209 photographs. Hardback with dust jacket. Condition of dust jacket: Fair.
