The set has unexpected provenance from the signature of James Marks at the Star and Windmill, which reoccurs in each of the volumes. The 1881 census of Surrey identifies the Marks family, stay makers, visitors staying at the Star and Windmill pub in Bermondsey with their sons, James and William. Heavy set.
