A book on chess theory that introduced many new concepts to followers of the modern school of thought. It is generally considered to be one of the most important books in the history of chess. The book is divided into three parts: "The Elements", "Positional Play", and "Illustrative Games". Aron Nimzowitsch (18861935) was a Russian-born, Danish leading chess master and a very influential chess writer. He was the foremost figure amongst the hypermoderns. His book has been translated to English by Philip Hereford. This is a 1954 reprint of the 1929 edition - and was a prize awarded at Colchester Royal Grammar School. (Prize certficate on ffep). Blue cloth covers, no dustjacket. Spine completely faded, front partly faded, edges rubbed, spine ends damaged, front cover loosening. Cut edges browned, loose endpapers spotted. Internal pages clean.
