Music Makers: On Record by Suvi Raj Grubb This is a wonderfully warm-hearted and informative book about making and recording music with Klemperer, Barenboim, Perlman, Barbirolli, Rostropovich, Ashkenazy, du Pré, Moore, Baker, Fischer-Dieskau, Previn, Gedda, Schwarzkopf, Giulini, Menuhin, Zukerman and many more. The author, a south Indian who worked for All India Radio and had a remarkable musical gift, came to England in 1953 to work as a freelance broadcaster. He joined the Philharmonia Chorus when it was first formed and was soon on its committee. He thus came into contact with Walter Legge, who recognised his skills as both a musician and as an administrator, and who brought him into EMI. These reminiscences cover his career there from that time until 1979 and the introduction of digital recording.
