The French title of this book consists of correct words, but is nonsense. The book is a spoof of a type of fashionable about 50 years ago. the title means Words of Hours: Pods, Oars, but if you read it out aloud with a British accent, it sounds like something familiar in English. The cover illustration gives a clue: try Mother Goose Rhymes. A look at rhyme 34 inside gives a further clue. Reading the first two French lines aloud yields something like "Pussy cat, pussy cat where have you been?" The nonsensical meaning of the French verses is reinforced by supposedly very serious academic footnotes in English. This copy is one of the 'de-luxe' edition published without a dust jacket in 1977.
