This book tells the story of the Missouri Botanical Garden, the oldest botanical garden in the United States. Known locally as "Shaw's Garden", the garden was the vision of Henry Shaw, an English immigrant who made his fortune selling cutlery and general goods to the fur traders, explorers and settlers passing through the booming "Gateway to the West". Shaw dreamed of creating a place of beauty and erudition every bit as impressive as those he had seen in England. Beautifully illustrated, this book presents archive photographs alongside gorgeous full-colour images by photographer Ian Adams. Hardcover in dust jacket. The spine has a slight forward lean, and both book and jacket have some wear including the odd bump around the edges. The contents of the book however remain bright and fresh, notwithstanding a gift inscription inside the front cover. 214 pages. Size 26 x 32 x 2 cm.
