Critical and Miscellaneous Essays: Collected and Republished - By Thomas Carlyle. This is a collection of reprinted reviews and other magazine pieces by the Scottish essayist, historian and philosopher - one of the books that made his name. Subject matter ranges from literary criticism (especially of German literature) to biography, history and social commentary. This is a full set of seven volumes, published by Chapman and Hall in 1972, in small format (17.5 cm x 13 cm) hardcover with a uniform cover design - only the volume number changes on the front cover and spine - forming part of a collection of the author's works. Condition is similar across the seven volumes, all of which show their age, especially on the tops and bottoms of spines. Pages show some foxing and heavy discolouration across their tops, but are tightly bound into the spines and show no damage beyond aging
