Muirhead Tower forms part of the University of Birmingham campus at Edgbaston, which features a number of Brutalist buildings and was named after the University's first Professor of Philosophy John Henry Muirhead. It was the second building on the campus by architect Sir Philip Dawson of Arup Associates- the first being the School of Metallurgy and Materials completed a few years earlier. Muirhead Tower was designed for the School of Civil Engineering and consists of two offset towers, connected by a service stack and a shared podium. Between 2007 & 2009 a £40m renovation project was completed by Associated Architects.
