There's something interesting about what other people eat, about the dinner parties that you have missed out on, about the meals that were hosted to mark a significant moment in history. This book combines them all. It is in part a social history, a marker of the change in social circumstances and eating habits. Thus the book brings us a typical school dinner from 1944 and a lunch at Cranks Vegetarian restaurant in 1961. It also however shows us the menu at Elvis and Priscilla Presley's wedding breakfast in 1967 and from a Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee Luncheon in 1897. There are menus as artistic concept and performance taken from the Futurist Cookbook in 1932 . . . . I've eaten from that cookbook and as great as it is it isn't very Nigel Slater! The food offerings from Concorde also get a look in as do the opening menus from the Little Chef in 1958. Hardback. 224 pages. Measurements: 17.6cm x 25.4cm x 2.5cm
