At first glance these photographs seem like a journey through a collection of mysterious bric-a-brac. Objects happened upon in a magical car boot sale or the dark recesses of an abandoned junk shop. Curious chalk symbols scrawled on the side of a decaying old dresser, a silver-backed brush used for sweeping a dining table, still thick with crumbs. A kitsch china dog conversing with a creepy carving of a devil. It all starts out feeling a little random but then you start to see the patterns emerging. Most of these pictures are about artifice, something pretending to be something it isn't. Much of the work deals with dreamlike, artificial spaces and objects. Many depict curious worlds in miniature; a doll's house interior, a tin boat on a crumpled tin sea or the fall of Rome modelled in sugar paste.
