This limited edition of poems by Claude Joseph Dorat was published just after the second World War, and beautifully illustrated by Umberto Brunelleschi, a well-known Italian artist of the time. Umberto Brunelleschi (1879-1949) was an Italian artist, born and educated in Italy, later moving to Paris in 1900, where he established himself as a printer, book illustrator, set and costume designer. Claude Joseph Dorat (17341780) was a French writer, also known as Le Chevalier Dorat. Besides light verse he wrote comedies, fables and several novels. Our copy is in good condition for its age and format. Bound in a plain white, thin card cover with title in black letters on front and author's name on the spine, it is very slightly age-tanned to the outside, but inside, the unbound loose leaves are all clean and bright, and the many illustrations beautifully sharp and clear.
