Lectures on the French Revolution by John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Action, Lod Acton, edited by J. N. Figgis and R. V. Laurence. The lectures were delivered at Cambridge between 1895 and 1899. This copy is a 1916 reprint of the 1910 first edition. . It is half-bound in red leather and red boards with the gilt crest of Christ's Hospital school on the front board. Binding firm. Association copy: on the inside front board is a prize label: the prize awarded to Russell Meiggs in 1918. (Meiggs was subsequently Fellow and Tutor in Ancient History (and Prefect of the College 1945- 1969) at Balliol College, Oxford from 1939 to 1970. He has been described as "one of the last and certainly one of the greatest of the old-style Oxford dons" and as 'the most revered, and the most beloved, tutor of his generation".)
