An invaluable piece of kitchen equipment for grinding spices or making pastes from garlic, ginger, fresh turmeric and more. Obviously the size of mortar that you require depends on the volume of spices that you need to grind, the largest one might be ideal if you regularly make Ottolenghi's magnificent black pepper tofu recipe or make a lot of basil pesto and the small one might suffice if you just need a small amount of ground cardamon for some Scandinavian biscuits.
