In 3 Parts with 2 Appendices and Index. 164pp. Nicely produced appropriately short history of this remote atoll 600 miles south-west if Java which makes for a highly romantic story. It was first settled in 1829 by a Scottish sailor and his descendants ruled benevolently over a colony of a few hundred settlers. From time to time they have been in the news; Captain Slocum commented on them favourably and they entertained Darwin, but this is the first time the full story has been
