Design By Oiva Toikka The Kastehelmi series has been a favourite in the Finnish Iittala glass collection for over fifty years. Designed in 1964 by Oiva Toikka, the idea of using droplets of glass was originally devised as a way of concealing joint marks left in the glass as a side effect of the production process. The resulting circles of tiny glass bubbles significantly enhanced the optical quality of the glass giving each piece its unique quality and the range its Kastehelmi 'dewdrop' name.
