A collection of twenty stories by Christopher Sam Youd, published under the name John Christopher. Some of the stories had already been published separately, the first, "Colonial", as early as 1949. This is the first edition of this collection. The stories are grouped under three headings: "The Twenty-Second Century" (5 stories), "The Light Fantastic" (10 stories), and "The Old Way Home" (5 stories). Hardcover, no dust jacket. Original red cloth with black titles (now rubbed). The corners are a little bumped. There are a few small marks on the cloth, and the spine has discoloured. The edges of the page block have a few spots, but the contents are clean and bright, a few light marks on the ffep notwithstanding. 239 pages. Size 19.1 x 13.1 x 2.3 cm.
