Before the arrival of the Mughals, painting was already flourishing in India as manuscript illustration and and as wall painting. This catalogue was published in connection with the exhibition of Indian Painting held at P & D Colnaghi & Co Ltd., in 1978, so although there is no publication date, it may be assumed to coincide with the exhibition. The illustrations are black and white and colour. Toby Falk was an Oriental Art historian, Ellen S Smart was former curator of South Asian Art at the San Diego Museum of Art, and Robert Skelton, was for many years a curator in the Indian department of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
