One sunny evening in August 1921 the world's largest airship was on its final trial flight from Howden in East Yorkshire when it broke up and exploded over the Humber estuary, killing 44 British and American crewmen. Only five survived. Official investigations blamed faulty design, but it was popularly supposed that the ship had been mishandled at low altitude. This authoritative account reveals the true causes. 93 b/w photograph illustrations. The book has some light general handling marks on the cover and a little bumping along edges. Residue of a label on the back cover, and slight surface loss at the top of the half-title where an old label has been removed. A few dark spots on the upper text block edge. Pages clean and bright.
