Forward- This catalogue relates to three concurrent exhibitions of Ian Mckeever's work at Kettle's Yard, Cambridge, Newlyn Art Gallery, Penzance, and Alan Cristea Gallery, London. In the last four years the artist has worked on a group of sixteen large paintings entitled Four Quartets. The Alan Cristea Gallery will be exhibiting paintings from both the Four Quartets and the Sentinels, along with related smaller paining's and recent works on paper Ian McKeever's , Sentinel, looks at his numerous oil paintings and works on paper from his series of sentinel drawings. Mckeever's art takes heed and directly confronts us, drawing us into their space while holding us at bay, setting their physical presence against our own. Predominantly red and white, or black and white, the paintings are neither abstract nor figurative. Visceral in their paint quality and emanating light, they combine the veils and transparencies of earlier work with a more sculptural or architectural structure. Ian McKe
