This primer has a brief history of Indian Sign Language, common words & phrases, counting numbers to 10 & to 100, includes many pages of practice sentences. With many photos and illustrations by Cody and Ye-Was of signing-by-hand. Indian hand-signals were created by the Plains Indians tribes and used over many centuries; they were also used by other tribes, as well as traders and travelers. Iron Eyes Cody, an American actor of Italian descent, portrayed Native Americans in Hollywood-- he was cast as the 'Native American' who shed a tear over litter in the wilderness that became an iconic public service advertisement in the 1960s.
