Both books contain a number of coloured reproductions from their accompanying exhibitions of Mackrill's works. Home Waters accompanies the exhibition under the same name which ran from 16th July to 2nd August 2008 (image 2), while Home Waters III accompanies the 2017 exhibition (main image). Martyn Mackrill is known for watercolor painting and illustration of marine subjects, sailing ships. His earliest days were spent around boats and harbours, and drawing and painting his surroundings came as a natural extension to this way of life. Early sales of his marine watercolours encouraged him to pursue marine painting as a career and he has also pursued his interest in sailing. He and his wife have lovingly restored a 1910 gaff-rigged cutter called Nightfall.Nightfallis important to him not just because he simply loves sailing, but because it puts him in touch with those earlier painters who worked on vessels just like it a century ago.
