No 1 of series Living Masters of Music published by John Lane; editor of series Rosa Newmarch is the author of this one. Inscription on front endpaper "To Katie Hughes from the Hero himself June 14th 1904" ie inscribed by the subject Henry Wood himself. [A facsimile of his signature below the photo of Wood on the frontispiece shows identical unusual loops to the capital H]. An account of the life and achievements of Wood, aged 35 at this date. Wood was invited at the age of 26 by Robert Newman to become conductor of a permanent orchestra at the Queen's Hall in Langham Place (London's premier concert venue at the time) giving an annual season of Promenade Concerts.
