Red cloth on board with dust jacket. Written and illustrated by artist F. A. (Frank Algernon) Stewart, a painter best known for his hunting scenes. A first edition of Stewart's exploration into the hunts of Britain, with his charming illustrations. Including hunts such as the Craven, the Cottesmore, the Whaddon, the Bicester, the Haydon, the Woodland Pytchley and the Tipperary, among others. Stewart worked for the Illustrated London News during the war, and was a keen hunter in his spare time. This book has eight colour plates by Stewart, as well as in-text line drawings throughout. Externally generally smart; a little faded to the head and tail of the spine, with extremities a little bumped. Dust wrapper has some loss to the head and tail. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and intact. Endpapers have some spotting. A previous owner has included a charming black and white print of a drawing of two horses, which is included in the sale of this book.
