Used, good condition, paperback. H M Bateman (1887-1970) was the first truly modern British cartoonist of the twentieth century. His dramatic and expressive drawings often sizzled with intensity - he had the ability to "draw funnily". Best remembered as the creator of "The Man Who....." drawings of social faux pas and as a master of the story without words, he was also an acute observer of British suburban life. He influenced The New Yorker artists of he 1920s as we as Ronald Searle, Harvey Kurtzman and Ralph Steadman. There is a mark and the remains of a sticker on the front cover and slight bumping to the corners. Otherwise the book is in good condition with sound binding and clean, unmarked pages.
