This Great Domesday county edition is from a donation to Oxfam by the distributors of Alecto's facsimile 1986 reproduction of the Domesday Book of 1086, (in conjunction with the Public Record Office, now the National Archive). It comprises three volumes cloth-bound in dark brown & cream that comprise: - Domesday Book Studies (general) - Introduction and Translation - Somerset - Folios (facsimiles) and Maps - Somerset Its clam-shell case is quarter-bound in dark green leather and mid-green cloth with a gilt spine title and gilt 'The Twin Town Edition' on the front. This may suggest that the case is not original. Although the volumes are 'as new' having storage wear only, the clamshell case has bumped corners and frayed spine end with some initial splitting. Because of its weight (6.5Kg), this will be sent by courier.
