This antique steel engraving was created by Carl Joseph Meyer, a 19th-century German artist known for his landscapes. The engraving was published in Germany around 1850. Carl Joseph Meyer (17961856) was a renowned German publisher and entrepreneur. He founded the Bibliographisches Institut in 1826, which became one of the leading publishers of encyclopedias and reference works in Germany. His most significant project was the encyclopedia "Meyers Konversations-Lexikon," with the first volume published in 1839, which gained widespread popularity. Meyer was also actively involved in educational activities, aiming to make knowledge accessible to the general public". Only fair condition. Although there is minimal foxing (just somewhat, around the edges), there are two long diagonal creases, just visible. Hence low price for this scarce item.
