These 72 extraordinary, rare plates are reproduced in full color directly from an original set valued at more than $10,000. They are the work of three young artists who later became well known as painters of military pictures. In honor of their King and country they celebrated Prussian glory by portraying the various army units and regiments, idealized in a figure or figures gloriously dressed for (or doing) battle. Aside from their value as striking lithographic reproductions from the early years of the medium, these picture preserve a period aura as well as a style of Prussian uniform that was de rigueur from the end of the Napoleonic Wars (1815) to the major uniform reform of 1842. This collection appears to constitute the only extant record of these uniforms.
