Authored by Carl Rogers and published in1983, Freedom to Learn for the 80's was a revised and updated version of the original Freedom to Learn published in 1969. The revision arose from Rogers' belief that the education system (in the USA) was failing to meet the real needs of society and that schools, generally 'constituted the most traditional, conservative, rigid, bureaucratic institutions of the time'. This text includes subjects, amongst others, such as: learning from children who love school; researching person-centered issues in education; building discipline and classroom management with the learner; and person-centered views of transforming schools. Rogers wrote from his own experience and states that the book is not, 'Ten Easy Steps to Learning and Teaching', but instead a discussion of attitudes, the development of a personal philosophy and a new way of being with students and oneself'.
