An inscribed sepia-toned print of the Russian ballerina and choreographer Nina Verchinina (1910-1995) photographed in the Karl & Emilie Romaine studio, San Francisco approx. Dec. 1939 - March 1940. Part of a series of images commissioned for the Ballet Russe tour of Australia and New Zealand 1940, printed by the Australian photographer Sam Hood. The print has been inscribed in blue ink by Nina Verchinina but we are unable to fully decipher the wording. Black wood frame 28.5cm x 36.5cm, visible artwork is 17.5cm x 23.5cm. Under acrylic. Studio signature in bottom right corner of print. The print is in good condition with no creases or stains but image and inscription has faded a little. The matte is toned with some foxing. The frame is sturdy but well worn. The glazing is intact and clear.
